Essential Energy has advised that important maintenance work on the high voltage powerline supplying Uralla, Walcha and surrounding areas will require a planned power outage on Tuesday, 29 September 2026, from 9am to 4pm (weather and conditions permitting).
This work is necessary to maintain the safety and reliability of the electricity network ahead of summer and the bushfire season. As Uralla and Walcha are supplied via a single radial feeder, there is no alternative power source available while this maintenance is undertaken.
Essential Energy has scheduled the outage on a Tuesday following consideration of community feedback from previous outages. The timing also coincides with the school holidays to help reduce impacts on schools and families.
What you can do now
• Plan ahead for the outage and consider any impacts on your household or business
• Make arrangements for refrigeration, electronic equipment, medical devices and other essential services if required
• Businesses that rely on continuous power may wish to explore generator hire options.
Essential Energy advises that eligible businesses unable to make alternative arrangements may be able to access assistance through its generator compensation process, subject to approval. Generator hire costs may be reimbursed, however transport, fuel and connection costs remain the responsibility of the business.
Affected customers will receive formal outage notifications from Essential Energy closer to the date.
