Project delivers stronger water network management

Council has successfully completed a Regional Leakage Reduction Program project, delivering new tools, technology and data to improve the efficiency and reliability of the town's water network.
Funded through the NSW Government’s Water Loss Management Grant, the project has strengthened Council's ability to detect leaks, monitor network performance and better manage valuable water resources.
Key outcomes included upgraded flow meters at the Water Treatment Plant, new pressure monitoring equipment, acoustic leak detection technology, expanded GIS mapping of water assets, hydraulic network modelling and a comprehensive water balance assessment.
Testing of older customer water meters also confirmed many were under-registering water consumption, supporting Council's ongoing water meter replacement program.
Mayor Robert Bell said the project would provide lasting benefits for the community and strengthen Council's ability to manage the water supply network.
"This grant has given Council valuable equipment, data and insights that will help us identify water losses earlier, improve network performance and make better-informed decisions about future infrastructure investment," Mayor Bell said.
"It's about being proactive, reducing waste and ensuring we have a resilient and efficient water network to serve our community into the future."
Council will now build on the project by establishing a structured pressure and leak monitoring program using the new equipment and information gathered through the grant.
Mayor Bell said the project had laid the groundwork for ongoing improvements.
"The grant has provided a strong foundation for smarter water management and has equipped our team with the tools needed to progressively improve the efficiency and reliability of the network," he said.
