Community backs proposed renaming of Pioneer Park

Published on 28 October 2026

Council will progress its proposal to rename Pioneer Park to Fibonacci Park following strong community support during public consultation.

A 28-day community engagement process found 63 per cent of respondents supported the proposed name change, with 48 of 76 submissions in favour.

The proposed name reflects the park's distinctive Fibonacci theme, which inspired the design of the 2023-24 redevelopment. The Fibonacci sequence is a mathematical pattern found throughout nature, and its principles are reflected in the park's layout, landscaping and play elements. Interestingly, the sequence includes the numbers 2, 3, 5 and 8, which make up Uralla Shire's postcode.

Mayor Robert Bell thanked residents who participated in the consultation.

"Community feedback has guided this project from the beginning, and it's encouraging to see strong support for the proposed name change," Mayor Bell said.

"The redevelopment transformed the park into a unique destination built around the Fibonacci theme. Renaming it Fibonacci Park aligns its official name with the identity the community helped create and the features visitors now associate with the space."

The proposal follows an earlier community engagement process that selected the Fibonacci theme as part of the park's redevelopment.

Council will now refer the proposal to the NSW Geographical Names Board for consideration. If approved, updates to signage, mapping and Council records will be incorporated into future renewal and communications programs.
