Shire water restrictions eased to Level 1

Uralla Shire Council has eased water restrictions for the townships of Uralla and Bundarra to Level 1 following recent rainfall.
Residents connected to the town water supply had been operating under Level 2 restrictions during an extended dry period. However, improved conditions have seen Kentucky Creek Dam, Uralla’s primary water source, reach capacity and begin to overflow.
Under Level 1 restrictions, residents may:
- Water lawns and gardens, except during the heat of the day (10am-3pm)
- Wash vehicles using a bucket or a hand-held hose fitted with a trigger nozzle
- Clean hard surfaces using high-pressure equipment (hand-held hoses are not permitted).
Mayor Robert Bell thanked the community for its efforts in conserving water during the dry spell.
“I’d like to congratulate our residents for their strong compliance with Level 2 restrictions,” Mayor Bell said. “Their efforts have played a vital role in protecting our valuable water supply.”
While welcoming the easing of restrictions, Mayor Bell urged continued vigilance in water use.
“Although this is positive news, we must continue to use water responsibly,” he said. “With an El Niño event forecast and rainfall remaining unpredictable, ongoing conservation is essential to help delay any return to stricter restrictions.
“While we continue to carefully manage our dam levels to ensure our community has access to water now, a great deal of planning is underway to ensure the long-term security of this vital resource.”
Level 2 restrictions will be reinstated when Kentucky Creek Dam falls to 62 per cent capacity.
