Searching for our 2027 Australia Day Heroes

Council is encouraging residents to nominate outstanding local individuals and groups for the 2027 Australia Day Awards, recognising those who go above and beyond to strengthen and enrich the Uralla Shire community.
The annual awards celebrate the achievements, dedication and community spirit of people who make a positive difference through volunteering, leadership, sporting excellence, environmental stewardship, arts and cultural contributions, and community service.
Uralla Shire Mayor Robert Bell said the awards provide an opportunity to acknowledge the many people whose efforts help make the Uralla Shire a vibrant and connected community.
“Every year we see remarkable examples of people giving their time, skills and energy to support others and improve our community,” Mayor Bell said.
“Many of these contributions happen quietly, behind the scenes, without any expectation of recognition. The Australia Day Awards are an opportunity to say thank you and celebrate the individuals and groups who make our Shire a better place to live.”
Award categories are:
- Citizen of the Year
- Senior Citizen of the Year
- Young Citizen of the Year
- Junior Sports Person of the Year
- Sports Person of the Year
- Sporting Team of the Year
- Volunteer of the Year
- Community Group of the Year
- Event of the Year
Mayor Bell encouraged residents to consider those who make a difference in local schools, sporting clubs, volunteer organisations, businesses and community groups.
“We are fortunate to have so many dedicated people contributing to our towns and villages every day,” he said.
“Whether it is a volunteer who gives countless hours to a local organisation, a young person showing outstanding leadership, or a community group creating opportunities for others, I encourage residents to take the time to submit a nomination.
“A nomination is a meaningful way to recognise someone’s contribution and ensure their efforts are celebrated by the broader community.”
