This month, our Visitor Information Centre (VIC)volunteers and staff launched a new initiative designed to strengthen local knowledge and celebrate the valuable role volunteers play in promoting Uralla Shire.

The group enjoyed a guided tour of McCrossin’s Mill Museum, followed by morning tea with the Mill team. The visit offered a chance to dive into Uralla’s rich history, helping volunteers feel more confident when answering curious visitor questions—and providing a relaxed opportunity to connect with fellow team members.

VIC Volunteer Sarah Mailler says "One of the great things about volunteering is getting to meet all the different people that stop into Uralla. Visitors are always so excited to be here and it's heartwarming to help make their trip to the Uralla Shire memorable. Our visit to the Mill was a great was to learn more about our town and its history while connecting with the team."

This monthly program is part of Council’s ongoing commitment to volunteer development and appreciation. Future outings will include a heritage walk led by a local historian, a gold panning demonstration at Wooldridge Reserve, and a gin tasting experience at Dobson’s Distillery.

If you or someone you know is passionate about local tourism and would like to join the VIC volunteer team, we’d love to hear from you.
